The Hong Kong Arts Festival is pleased to present a wide range of artists to lead innovative workshops in Cattle Depot Artist Village. This will be a rare opportunity to explore and experiment art form in different format, including VR and AR technology. Come and discover exciting new ways to tell stories in a theatre!

Virtual Reality Workshop - Conducted by Jack Lowe

What do you need to work with VR in theatre? How do you get started? Where do I begin with VR? Jack Lowe, artistic director of curious directive has been working with VR since 2013. This intensive workshop will help participants understand the fundamentals of the VR world, conceive, create and edit your first VR film and begin your steps for your own VR project.

Making of a Virtual Reality Theatre - Conducted by Jack Lowe

How do you make a theatre production using VR? This 90 minute lecture will take you on a journey across 3 continents, underwater into a coral reef, and into a rehearsal room. Taking Frogman as an example, the lecture picks apart the challenges of making theatre using VR and points towards the potential future of VR in theatre.

The workshop is for theatre-makers interested in understanding the grammar of AR, exploring the potential for AR as an exciting way to tell stories in a theatre.

Creating Site-Specific Performance and Devised Theatre Workshop

Dante or Die Theatre is inviting HK artists to join an intensive site-specific devising workshop. It will be led by the company’s Co-Artistic Directors Terry O’Donovan and Daphna Attias. During the workshop artists will explore methods of creating new work based on the company’s experience on devising and writing original performances in a variety of site-specific contexts such as hotel rooms, leisure centres and self-storage buildings. The workshops will offer participants the chance to explore and create new performances in interesting and unconventional spaces. We will spend two days moving, writing, improvising and designing audience journeys around buildings, culminating in opening their idea and concept to new ways of engaging with audiences in space. 18 Mar 1400-1800 (for professional theatre artists) 19 Mar 1400-1800 (any background) Key areas that the workshop will explore are: * Placing site at the heart of the work * The role of your audience in site-specific performance * Physical storytelling moving through spaces * Creating robust narrative in site-based theatre

PIPPO DELBONO’S THEATRE WORKSHOP - Topic: Love

The workshop will be conducted by Pippo Delbono and his actor/assistant Pepe Robledo. 20 participants will be offered the opportunity to experience the physical training of the work of the actor and improvise based on Delbono's suggested topics. Structure of the workshop: •physical training (comfortable outfits) •improvisations (answering Pippo Delbono’s suggestions/further research topics) March 20, 14:00 to 19:00 March 21, 14.00 to 19.00 * Actors/actresses, you do not need to be prepared to “perform” something specific. Pippo Delbono’s workshops always take place in a very pure way free of any intellectual concept.
